Today was the first day of school! Honestly it was pretty stressful because I felt fairly unprepared, which is never a good feeling as a teacher. But we made it through the day and hopefully we had some fun, too! I'm totally drinking tea (in a chartreuse mug, no less!) and eating a well-deserved chocolate, though!
I also wanted to share my finished classroom with you. These are actual photos at the end of the day. So forgive the mess, but I wasn't going to do any more work! Haha!
I made quite a few dramatic changes to my classroom set up this year. I switched over to flexible seating for almost all of my seats. This includes many options for seats including: crate seats, bean bags, pillows, yoga balls, standing table and a few regular seats, too! The seats are also in rows right now, but I'm not sure I am going to be able to keep that much longer. We'll see... Since it was the first day, the students just kept the same seat all day. Tomorrow I'm going to teach them how to move seats and I'll start changing it up so they can try all of the different seating types over the next few weeks.
I also totally got rid of my teacher desk. It was gigantic and honestly just a clutter collector. Hang on, I have to go tell my cat to get off the table. True story. I have all of my stuff neatly organized in my two teacher toolboxes on two shelves behind my kidney table. Currently all of my stuff is spread out on the table instead, but I'll have to clean it off shortly. So far I love this!!! I have a spot for almost everything and I am enjoying having organized stuff! I wouldn't say it's perfect yet. I honestly had a melt down after school when I couldn't find an important piece of paper. But it's definitely an improvement. I hope you have a great first day of school as well (or just a good day, period!)
